We worked with Razer to introduce the Razer Blackshark V2 Pro – a next-level gaming headset developed in collaboration with top Esports players. Featuring Razer’s HyperClear Super Wideband Mic and pro-tuned FPS audio profiles, gamers can embrace immersive experiences and enhance their skills, taking their gameplay to the next level.
Behind-The-Scenes
Behind-The-Scenes: CGI mixed with A Film Shoot
Early in the conceptualisation phase, we realized we had to cut together a sequence that would clearly communicate the exceptional in-game auditory perception enabled by the headset’s pro-tuned FPS profiles. In the midst of a fast barrage of FPS gameplay, we needed that human connection – a shot of a player’s swift head turn – a visual demonstration of the player’s enhanced auditory perception detecting approaching enemies.
Hence, the decision to do a film shoot.
As a CGI Studio, we are proficient in a number of creative abilities. Filming shoots however is unfamiliar territory. Regardless of our inexperience, we rose to the challenge anyway and bought a bunch of film lights, fed Esports stadium imagery onto our TV and directed the talent in a one-hour shoot.
We all experienced a certain level of adrenaline and apprehension when directing the film shoot. When the results came out though, we were super stoked about how our decision had helped to elevate the product trailer. Of course, this came at additional costs to cover the shoot expenses, but we are always happy to produce that extra “oomph” for our clients whenever we see the opportunity.
Behind-The-Scenes: Using Visual Metaphors
We tasked each member to explore and contribute ideas, to ensure that there was a variety of different creative ideas. We worked alongside Razer, to ensure that the visual metaphors were aligned with the brand, and clearly represented the functions they wished to convey.
For instance, we focused on the idea of “widening” by designing a sequence of a widening space for the HyperClear Super Wideband Mic. This serves as a visual metaphor to the widening of the audio frequencies that the microphone can capture.
“For Gamers. By Gamers.” As a company focused on creating gaming gear, Razer’s videos need to captivate and resonate with gamers. So we kept things collaborative by involving our client throughout the creative journey; allocating sessions for timely check-ins to gauge our ideas and execution. By working closely together, we pushed for a killer visual experience that captured the essence of the product, without misrepresenting any product features.
Director’s Message
“This product trailer for Blackshark V2 Pro marks my debut as a co-director, a role I am truly grateful for. I appreciate the quiet support and initiative of team members to ensure the work gets done. I take immense pride in the final outcome of this product commercial, and in successfully leading the team through the entire process, from CGI to the film shoot.
Amidst the world’s recovery from the pandemic, we encountered unforeseen obstacles in project launches, resource allocation, and scheduling. However, these challenges presented an opportunity for me to rise as a creative lead and contribute to the team in my own ways.
“Ronald here, just wanted to add that we have outdone ourselves in filming certain components of this largely CGI commercial. With the film component, we are better able to hit home how this pair of Razer headphones are tuned to provide better clarity and feedback for professional gaming.
The film component of this video has truly excited us to push ever so slightly outside of our comfort zone. That’s where all the magic happens, doesn’t it? With that, Masonry Studios is looking to work with more video production partners in Singapore, so please hit us up at hello@masonry-studios.com if you would like to collaborate on projects!”
